Whether you call it chew, dip, or a wad, smokeless tobacco is a serious health problem and as difficult to break a habit as difficult as cigarettes.
Here are a few of the health problems (per the Mayo Clinic):
Cancer: Maybe you won’t get lung cancer, but smokeless tobacco can still give you cancer. You risk certain types of cancer if you use chewing tobacco or other types of smokeless tobacco. This includes esophageal cancer and various types of oral cancer, including cancers of your mouth, throat, cheek, gums, lips and tongue. Surgery to remove cancer from any of these areas can leave your jaw, chin, neck or face disfigured, and the cancer may be life-threatening. You also risk pancreatic cancer and kidney cancer.
Smokeless tobacco increases your risk of developing small white patches called leukoplakia (loo-ko-PLAY-kee-uh) inside your mouth where the chew is most often placed. These mouth lesions are precancerous. They can lead to cancer. Stop using smokeless tobacco products, the lesions usually go away within a few months.
Cavities and Gum Disease: Your dentist knows. Chewing tobacco and other forms of smokeless tobacco cause tooth decay. Smokeless tobacco can cause your gums to pull away from your teeth in the area of your mouth where you place the chew. Over time you can develop gum disease (gingivitis), which can lead to periodontitis and tooth loss. And, of course, there is bad breath.
Heart disease: Smokeless tobacco increases your heart rate and blood pressure. Long-term use of smokeless tobacco increases your risk of dying of certain types of heart disease and stroke.

Hypnosis Program Works
My program is gradual and customized to your needs and dip habit. No groups to get lost in. Uses both your conscious and subconscious mind. Actually builds willpower. You will not be expected to stop at the first session. But you will have the opportunity to stop at the second. And the goal at the third session is to make it permanent.
Start to Stop Chewing Tobacco
- Learn what hypnosis is and isn’t.
- Your questions/concerns about hypnosis answered
- Discover your addiction patterns
- Set your quit smoking date and develop a hypnotic plan to make it successful and as easy as possible
- Homework (not written don’t worry) between sessions one and two
- Live, private 20-30 minute hypnosis session to program you to succeed
You will be hypnotized to make yourself ready to make the change. Your goal is to make it to the third session ready to make the change. You will receive an audio recording of this session to play daily between the first and the second sessions. My clients continue to chew tobacco between sessions 1 and 2. However, you should plan to cut down chewing by 40%-50% between the first and second sessions by following a simple plan supported with post-hypnotic suggestions.
Your Quit Day
- 2-7 days after session one
- Get rid of all dip or chew before the session
- Your goal is leave the office free
You will be guided into a hypnotic trance in which you will be guided to choose to become someone who just doesn’t chew or dip, to become someone who doesn’t even think about dipping except as something in the past.
You will be bombarded with post-hypnotic suggestions designed to instill a strong aversion to the taste, smell and sight of tobacco and to the feeling of chew or drip in your cheek. You receive an audio recording (CD) of your personal session that you can use for reinforcement should the desire ever return.
You will find the process is gentle yet powerful. And you will certainly enjoy the freedom and pride that comes when you stop using dip.
