Happy Thanks-GETTING 2019!

Like to make it an even Happier Thanksgiving Day this year? Then take a moment to practice what I call Thanks-GETTING.

Yep. GETTING as well as Thanksgiving.
To really GET how blessed most of us are to live our society. Consider this:
Virtually everyone in the United States is incredibly rich by world standards. Most of us have enough to eat (some far too much), basic medical care, education for our children, public libraries, internet, tv, phones and a legal system that guarantees no one is going to pull us out of our bed at 2am without due process. We truly are fortunate to live the lives we do in 21st Century America  even with our current political upheavals.

So, why not take just a moment to GET that the glass really is more than half full. Likely much more when you think about it a little.

And I have not even begun to talk about the love in our lives, the people we have loved and loved us and the simple joys like being outdoors in a nice autumn day, connection with your friends and spiritual support or reading a nice uplifting email from your friendly neighborhood hypnotist.
So why not Make It GREAT DAY by focusing on what is good as well as what needs to be change, not just tomorrow but everyday?

Einstein’s Definition of Insanity

I saw this box on an episode of Fargo and just had to get it to share with clients – what a perfect metaphor for addiction or destructive habits. It applies equally to the alcoholic, person with a problem with drugs, compulsive over-eater as well as to the  gambler, “shopaholic”, nail biter, hair puller, pornography or sex addict. The common definition of addiction or destructive habits of “doing the same thing over and over expecting something different.”

If this short video is at all familiar to you and you are “sick and tired of being sick and tired”, you may well be at what is called the Jumping off Point – the place at which the pain of the behavior has finally outweighed any pleasure.

Others call it (paradoxically) The Gift of Desperation.

If so it may be time to consider something radical such as a residential treatment program, new licensed therapist or even calling your friendly neighborhood hypnotist.

In the meantime, keep watching the video and thinking about your behavior until you get there.

Hypnosis to Stop Gambling Problems

Ever wonder who pays the salaries of the 1,400,000 people employed by the US gambling industry?

That is an interesting question. Isn’t it? Or who pays for the amazing luxury buildings the house the 1,000,000 slot machines in the United States alone? Like Twin River or Foxwoods? It takes over $100,000,000,000 in profits each year to pay for all of the casinos in the US and give the owners a profit. Well, the answer is primarily the problem gambler – the heavy user consumer. I am writing this because a hypnosis client mentioned to me that when her husband asked her whether she had asked herself “who pays for the casino and the people who run it?” and pointed out it was his and her money. This caught her attention and stated her journey on a personal change. Maybe it will do the same for someone reading this. To my mind, there is nothing wrong with a little gambling fun now and then – but if you think you are going to win – well, just look around you next time you are in a casino and realize you are paying for entertainment – the big money winners are (and will always be) the ones who run the place – not you or me stuffing our money into the one armed bandits. Just a thought for the day
